5-MTHF: The Best Form Of Folate Supplementation

In the body, the folate molecule goes through several enzymatic steps to become the active molecule 5-MTHF. It is the active 5-MTHF form of folate that participates in the homocysteine-lowering step that results in the production of the safe amino acid, methionine which is essential to cellular function.

In theory, supplementing with folic acid—the most common form of folate in supplement form—should provide the body with the folate it needs to convert dangerous homocysteine into safe methionine. Unfortunately, this readily available homocysteine-lowering regimen doesn’t work for everyone.

That’s because in order to make the conversion from folate to the active 5-MTHF, an enzyme called methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase or MTHFR is necessary—and not everyone carries the same genetic version of this important enzyme. It is estimated that between 5 and 10% of the population has a gene variant that reduces MTHFR activity by 70%, while nearly 50% of people of European descent have a genetic variation that decreases MTHFR activity by as much as 35%.

If you fall into these categories, you are likely to be a victim of methylation deficiencies that can cause numerous issues with the nervous or immune system.

The solution is simple: Instead of relying only on the folic acid in your multinutrient formula, supplement with 5-MTHF.

A wealth of laboratory and human studies demonstrate that 5-MTHF is the best form of folate required.

The conversion process diagram below guides you through the steps the body must take in order to convert folic acid or folate to the active form 5-Methyltetrahydrofolate which is essential to every cell in the body. At Neurobiologix we start with the active form of folate so your body does not have to go through the process of conversion.

Methylation Support - Step One

Supreme bioactive fast-dissolving tablets.

For those who may be sensitive to supplementation but are looking for methylation support, this is considered Methylation Support: STEP 1. Once this is tolerated well then you may consider moving to Methylation Support: STEP 2 with our Methylation Complete Fast Dissolves.

Methylation Support - Step One® combines the active coenzyme form of vitamin B12, methylcobalamin, with an active form of folate, Metafolin®* L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate. This bioactive formula was created to bypass normal absorptive mechanisms for vitamin B12 and folate which may be lacking due to aging, diet, or gastrointestinal issues.

Fast-dissolving tablets allow for quick release into the bloodstream. Vitamin B12 and folate play an integral role in DNA synthesis and thus are essential to cell division and proper functioning of virtually all tissues in the body.

Vitamin B12 and folate also participate in methylation and proper metabolism of homocysteine, a potentially toxic metabolite of methionine. Dietary B12 can be reliably obtained only from animal products and is a singularly difficult vitamin to absorb. Active B12-Folate may be especially beneficial for vegetarians and persons with impaired stomach absorption issues.

Ultimate Methylation Support In One Cream!

BioActive B6, B12, Methyl Folate (5-MTHF), Vitamin D and A Small Amount of Vitamin K For Delivery
*Enhanced Liposomal Delivery System*

Advanced Topical Cream for Neurological, Nervous & Immune System Support / Ultimate Methylation Support

The addition of Vitamin K in this methylation support cream is recommended for those who are hindered by a methylation deficiency and/or a VDR Taq genetic polymorphism which inhibits the person's ability to absorb vitamin D at the cellular level without the cofactor Vitamin K. Impaired vitamin D function due to this polymorphism can result in significant immune weakness, early bone loss and increased risk of cognitive decline and mood issues.*
As a solution, our unique topical delivery system, assures that our professional- grade Methylation Pro promotes and enhances the methylation processes needed to improve the production of glutathione, increase Vitamin D levels and allow maximum B12, B6 and vitamin delivery to the nervous and immune systems. This potent nutrient-rich cream may help maximize and aid in:

  • Mood Improvement & Stabilization*
  • Mental Focus & Concentration*
  • Organization Skills*
  • MTHFR Mutations*
  • Short Term Memory Loss*
  • Supporting a healthy sleep cycle*
  • Immune Function and well-being*
Such nutrients as Pyridoxal 5-Phosphate (B6) and Vitamin B12 in a methylated form called methylcobalamin (Methyl B12) and hydroxycobalamin (Hydroxy B12), natural Vitamin D and K1 assist the body neurologically and physically.

What Does A VDR Taq Genetic Mutation Mean To You?

The Vitamin D Receptor is a member of the nuclear receptor family. Upon activation by vitamin D, the VDR causes the activation or deactivation of protein production by the cell.

Impaired vitamin D function can result in significant immune weakness, as well as early bone loss, an increased risk of cognitive decline and mood issues.*
